Memorial Weekend Fun

Last week we headed down to San Diego for some Southern California fun.  We stayed at Paradise Point and had the best time!  I totally recommend that hotel if you’re ever down there.  All the rooms are bungalows and we had one with our own private beach access and bonfire pit.  If you watch Jon & Kate plus 8, it was the same hotel they stayed at.  The weather was much cooler than the Bay Area, but it was nice, not too cold and not too warm.

Congratulations to Hayden’s Aunt Clara who graduated from SDSU which is why the whole fam bam clan went down.  Hayden got to go on his first boat ride driven by Daddy and he loved the marshmellows at our bonfires.  He also had many webbed footed visitors.  We met so many friendly families that were our neighbors for the week.  One of them even caught a few stingrays while fishing!

Spring Forward!

Yay!  The weather is getting nicer which means more time to play.

Today we went to the Children’s Discovery Museum with Hayden’s new friend Gunner.  He slept for the first hour cuz he hadn’t napped, but had a good time once he woke up to all the chitter chatter of the other kids in the toddler room.  He loved the bubble room.  He played with the bubble soap more than made bubbles, but had the greatest time.  His shirt was soaked and his face full of bubble soap.  Next time we visit, we’ll spend more time in the water room, where we’ll for sure need a change of clothes.

On Thursday, we found out Hayden got into the San Jose Parents Nursery School.  I was so excited when I got the email because there’s such a high demand for that school and a long wait list.  Not to mention it was the only school we had applied for.  We can’t wait to start in the fall and are looking forward to all the new friends we’ll make.

The Things We Make Our Children Do

Santa Time was not good for Hayden.  My poor baby who is usually so happy and smiley, was not having any fun with Santa.  There were literally almost ten of us trying to make him smile.

It’s a total classic picture that I’m sure every one or two year old has.  Let’s hope he does better next year.

Happy Holidays everyone!!

Happy Birthday Hayden!!

We’re spending Hayden’s birthday week in sunny southern California.  It’s been fun celebrating his birthday all weekend.  He’s such a little stud, flirting with all the ladies down here.  If you’re in Santa Monica, check out Vanilla Bake Shop’s cupcakes.  We got them for Hayd today.  They are the best!

Here are some photos from his big day today:

Can you come out and play today?

We went to two parties today, and at the first, a friend, Jenna, was trying to set-up a play date for Hayden.  A gal interrupted and said what ever happened to kids just knocking on their friend’s door and saying “let’s go play today!” I thought, yeah...why do our kids need scheduled play dates.  Is this the society we live in now?  Are we really that busy?

Growing up, I was lucky to live on a street where there were many other kids my age and we were able to play outside all the time after school without our parents scheduling “play time”.  If I saw a friend riding her bike around the block and I would just go out there and ride my bike with her.  Or if I didn’t see anyone outside, I’d go knock on someone’s door.  Or, if I didn’t want to do that, I could just shoot some hoops in my driveway and sooner or later someone would show up.  It was great.  We’d have block parties, Halloween parties, camping trips.  I hope Hayden is able to grow up on a similar street.

To Cut or Not to Cut

Hayden is a sweater, he sweats so easily and now his mohawk is growing out and I don’t know if we should keep it up, cut it normally or let it grow out.  What do you think??

I’m Back

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since my last post.  I guess we’ve been super busy.  This week alone, Spark went AFF skydiving then we went to Tahoe with the fam bam and went up the Gondola as my mom hilariously freaked out and said maybe she didn’t want to know how Spark felt jumping out of a plane.  Hayden did really well in the car, so maybe we’ll be able to go again in the winter to see the snow.  It’ll have to be during the week though.  I also picked up a new client and we got Hayden a nanny (who is totally awesome) since he’s all over the place now and you literally can’t do anything if you’re watching him except watch him.

My baby is growing so fast.  Right before my eyes he turning into a little toddler.  I also can’t believe he’s going to be the big numero uno soon.  He’s becoming such a talker too.  He tries so hard to say the words we’re trying to teach him.  He’ll figure ‘em out in no time.  So far he knows the basics mama, dada, and ba.  We’re not sure if thats for ball, bottle or both.  He loves checking out the fridge, opening drawers and cabinets, and one day I’m afraid he’s going to fall into the toilet.  He really likes playing with water.  He’s got 8 teeth now and is like a puppy who likes to bite.

Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to update his site with new photos this week.

Until next time!

Finomenal Baby That’s Him

Hayden is a Fi-nam.  He’s phenomenal AND he’s Filipino and Vietnamese.  Get it… Fi-Nam.... Filipino and VietNamese.  Spark cracked me up the other day when he thought of this.  But it’s true.  My baby is phenomenal!

In honor of Maya Angelou’s great poem Phenomenal Woman:

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I’m not cute or built to suit a model’s fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I’m telling lies.
I say
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It’s the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say
It’s in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It’s in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That’s me.

He Looks Like Who?

My family, especially my sister, always makes fun of how my mom dressed me up as a boy when I was a baby and had no fashion sense.  One of my first professional photos is of me wearing a blue baseball outfit with my hair spiked up.  It’s hilarious.

Anyway, my mom sent me this photo she took of pictures when I was a baby next to pictures of Hayden.  It’s so amazing how we look so similar.  Check out our hair!  Thankfully, he’s much lighter because he has his dad’s complexion.

So now it’s true, I really did look like a baby boy!  LOL.  Even though we look alike when I was a baby, I still don’t think he looks like me now.  I guess we’ll see when he gets older.

Baby Carrier No. 2

I went to Tiny Tots today just to browse around and totally got upsold on a baby carrier while chatting with another mom.  No, not by the salesperson, by the other mom!  It’s ok though because I love my new Ergo Baby carrier.  I used the Bjorn and also liked it, but probably not as much as I’m going to like this.  Hayden grew out of the Bjorn around 6 months, so we only used that thing for 3 months.

The Ergo Baby carrier is totally comfortable and I can’t wait to use it this weekend.  I know it’s weird.  I never thought I’d buy a second carrier, but this should work until Hayd is 3 or 40 pounds.  I figured it was ok since I see a lot of parents still carrying their 2-3 year olds and at least when I do it, I’ll be comfortable.  I carry him now and get tired after 10 minutes and he’s only 20 pounds.  Imagine later how it’ll be.  The cool thing is he can go in the front, back or hip.  When I put him in it and walked around the store, he totally loved it and almost fell asleep.  He should probably be a bit bigger before I really start putting him on my back, but he loved playing with my hair and the different view it gave him.  A few more weeks and it’ll be perfect for him back there.  I didn’t try the hip yet, but I’m sure it’ll be fine.

You can also use the Ergo Baby when your baby is first born as there is some sort of insert, which I thought was nice.  I’ll have to try it with baby number 2.  It’s funny how much wiser you’ll be for that second baby…
